had an interesting conversation with CAKE's John Mccrea the other night before their NYE show in atlanta. It was great to get such an influential artists' perspective on what we are doing at GoRankem. as i mentioned to John, 80%+ of our visitors these days are coming from search queries like "best [artist name] songs." it's great that google is starting to recognize gorankem as the 'cliffsnotes for the catalogs' - something we've always aspired towards - but we want to do a better job capturing those new visitors and growing the inner community. there's a big difference between the casual visitors and the active rankers. John mentioned a possible middle ground -- do you think there's a sweet spot in-between? We are going to be testing out new ideas for different types of visitors and for contribution levels, so keep an eye out! think we'd entice new visitors to stay longer if we mentioned up front they could easily access premium content (e.g. how did the superfans -those with a fanstanding of 9 or 10- rank 'em?) or the ability to turn the collective artist rankings into a video playlist a la the personal playlists? lemme know... -adam |

I think there should be an option for someone to easily contribute without going through the ranking process - maybe saying 'this is my favorite song' from the artists page. The premium content could work well - being able to sort the song catalogue based on fanstanding or other factors would entice people to sign up. Maybe only show the top 10 songs in an artists' catalogue for all visitors, but signed in users can view the entire list. |

i like the idea of only displaying the top 10 songs (esp considering the large majority of visitors need the quick resource)...but then again, the real essence of gorankem is in the heart of the catalog -- our collective ability to recognize the songs that are lost in teh shuffle AKA the hidden gems |
